The data we process
The data we use depends on the parts of BillMeister you choose. Not everyone uses every feature.
- Website data: an essential language preference, a display preference stored on your device and limited technical server logs for security and troubleshooting.
- Contact data: your name, email address, message and our correspondence when you contact us.
- Account data: email address, protected login and session data, and settings needed to manage your account.
- App data: bills, amounts, payment dates, categories, reminders and statuses that you enter yourself.
- Money Test data: answers and results according to the choices shown with the test. Personal results are not shared with an employer, school or coach.
- Support data: technical information you choose to send, such as device type, app version or a screenshot.
Why we use data
- To provide the website, app, account features and reminders you select.
- To answer questions and provide support.
- To secure accounts and systems and prevent misuse.
- To improve reliability and ease of use with information that is suitable and limited for that purpose.
- To comply with legal duties, including tax and administrative requirements.
BillMeister does not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Our legal bases
- Performance of a contract when processing is necessary for a service you requested.
- Consent when you deliberately enable an optional use; you can withdraw that consent.
- Legitimate interests for matters such as security, fraud prevention and careful improvement, balanced against your interests.
- A legal obligation when the law requires us to use or retain particular data.
Service providers and international transfers
We use carefully selected providers for services such as hosting, email and technical support. They may process personal data only on our instructions and must apply appropriate security.
We limit transfers outside the European Economic Area. Where a transfer is necessary, we use a valid transfer mechanism and appropriate safeguards, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep data
We do not keep personal data longer than needed for the purpose for which it was collected. The exact period depends on the type of data, your account choices, security needs and statutory retention duties.
- Account and app data: while your account is active and then for the limited period needed for deletion, recovery or a legal requirement.
- Contact and support messages: as long as needed to handle your request and retain relevant agreements.
- Technical logs: briefly, and only for security, stability and incident investigation.
- BillMeister’s own financial administration: for the period required by tax law.
Security and incidents
We combine technical and organisational safeguards, including encrypted connections, controlled access, secure development and release checks, monitoring and recovery provisions. Our security statement explains the approach in more detail.
If a personal data breach is likely to put people at risk, we investigate and contain it and notify affected people and the Dutch Data Protection Authority where required by law.
Your privacy rights
- Access to the personal data we process about you.
- Correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Deletion or restriction where the legal conditions apply.
- Objection to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Portability for data that qualifies.
- Withdrawal of consent, without affecting earlier lawful processing.
Send your request to hello@billmeister.com. We normally respond within one month. To protect your data, we may first ask for reasonable confirmation of your identity.
You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority. We welcome the opportunity to hear and resolve your concern first.
Young people
Young people use BillMeister too. We therefore write clearly, limit the data we request and apply additional care. If processing requires consent and you are under 16, consent from a parent or guardian may be required.
Changes to this statement
We update this statement when the service, our practices or the law changes. The date above shows when it was last reviewed substantively. We will make important changes visible and inform users in an appropriate way.
